Exported Marquettes were sold in England, France, Germany, South Africa, South America and Australia to name a few. The largest group of Marquettes exported were sent to Australia!
There were complete Marquette's as well as Marquette Sedan chassis and Phaeton chassis exported to Australia. These complete cars and chassis were right hand drive cars and those that were exported as a bare chassis, were then converted by Holden Coachworks, of Adelaide, Australia. Holden Motor Body Builders bodied 465 Marquette Sedans and 303 Tourers, all in 1929.
Marquette's imported into the UK, were prepared by Bedford Vehicles in Hendon England. Bedford Vehicles was a subsidiary of Vauxhall Motors who produced commercial vehicles in the UK. Vauxhall and Bedford Vehicles were acquired by General Motors in the Mid 1920's. Bedford Vehicles or Bedford-Buick (I have found both listings,) prepared not only Marquette's for the UK market, but prepared the GM list of regulars including: Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac/LaSalle, Oakland/Pontiac plus Chevrolet and GMC Trucks.
There were a total of 3,465 Marquettes exported around the world. |
